NEW GLOUCESTER — Voters at Monday night’s annual town meeting passed all spending articles and an amendment to the zoning ordinance.
About 80 people attended the meeting, which was moderated by Ben De Troy. A municipal budget of $3,869,555 increases the amount raised by local taxes by nearly 10 percent over this fiscal year.
The zoning ordinance amendment will allow property owners to appeal a code enforcement officer’s decision to the town Board of Appeals instead of Cumberland County Superior Court.
Fire Chief Gary Sacco offered an amendment to not appropriate $10,000 for future playground equipment at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds. Voters disagreed, deciding to take the money from the undesignated fund balance.
Sacco also tried unsuccessfully to amend an article to lower the Parks and Recreation appropriation from $37,650 to $28,550.
Funding the Planning Department at $96,515, an increase of $5,575, will give the town planner a salary in line with other planners.
