FARMINGTON — The American Legion Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28, in the downtown area.

Parade participants are asked to line up at 8:30 a.m. on Middle Street at the corner of High and Middle streets.

Antique and classic cars will enter the circular driveway in front of Mallett School, where judges will award various categories of vehicles.

At 9 a.m. the American Legion Color Guard will conduct a wreath placing at the World War I Memorial on Main Street. All are invited to attend.

The American Legion will host a Memorial Day service at 9:30 a.m. inside Post 28 at the corner of Middle and High streets.

At 9:50 a.m. a wreath will be placed outside of the Post.

The route for the parade, which begins at 10 a.m., has been modified.

The lead unit will turn right from Middle Street onto High Street, then turn left immediately on Academy Street and continue to Main Street. They will turn right on Main Street and pass by the parade announcer, who will be located in front of Franklin Savings Bank.

The parade will continue north to Meetinghouse Park, where three wreaths will be placed at the military monuments inside the park.

The parade will proceed to a right onto Anson Street and continue into the cemetery behind the Franklin County Courthouse. A ceremony will take place, including a wreath laying and the playing of “Taps.”

The parade will proceed on Anson Street, turn right on High Street and return to the American Legion Post Hall where a light lunch will be served

It will be followed by a balloon release at the Mallett School, where classic and antique cars can be viewed up close.
