LEWISTON — Leigh A. Weisenburger, Bates College’s current director of admission, has been named the college’s dean of admission and financial aid, effective July 1, according to a release from the college.

The appointment follows a search that involved interviewing 12 candidates drawn from a national pool.

Weisenburger has a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in American studies. She joined the Bates admission staff in 2004 as an assistant dean, becoming director of admission in June 2011.

She will report to the president. Interim Dean of Admission and Financial Aid John E. Hanson will continue to serve Bates in a consulting role, and the search for a new director of admission will begin this summer.
