BANGOR, Maine — A Brewer woman was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a June 2 hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a Bangor man, according to police.
Patricia Giles, 51, surrendered to authorities at the Bangor police station, according to Sgt. Paul Edwards.
“She met with Detective Larry Morrill last night and basically turned herself in,” the sergeant said Thursday.
Giles is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Class C felony, and falsifying evidence, Edwards said.
Joshua R. Constantine, 37, of Bangor was killed when he was hit by a car on Main Street near the entrance to Shaw’s supermarket around 10:30 p.m. June 2, police said. There was a Waterfront Concert featuring the Zac Brown Band going on at the time. The show ended around 11:15 p.m.
Constantine was an employee of Herbal Tea & Tobacco in downtown Bangor and lived on Patten Street, said a friend who is a fellow employee.
“Our family is mourning the loss of our best friend and brother,” the Herbal Tea & Tobacco Facebook page states.
The company’s Facebook page was updated earlier this month to feature photos of Constantine.
He is survived by his daughter, Kaya, described as “the light of his life” in his obituary in the Bangor Daily News.
Edwards praised the public for aiding police in locating the suspect.
“Tips from the public led us to finding her,” Edwards said. “That was extremely helpful in this case.”
Giles was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released on $10,000 unsecured bail, Edwards said. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 12.
