Hadlock Field has been a stop for many Boston Red Sox players rehabilitating from injuries on their way back to the majors from David Ortiz to Jon Lester to, most recently, Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Now add Carl Crawford to that list.
The Red Sox outfielder is scheduled to make his latest rehab stop in Portland during Tuesday night’s game against the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
The game is sold out.
Crawford, 30, has been out for the entire 2012 season after off-season surgery on his left wrist and a UCL strain in his left elbow diagnosed in April.
Crawford played five games for the Red Sox rookie league affiliate in Fort Myers and experienced no setbacks. He played left field and reportedly felt no pain while throwing the ball. He hit .214 (3 for 14) with two runs scored.
A free agent signing from the Tampa Bay Rays in December, 2010, Crawford hit .255 with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs and stole 18 bases in 130 games. In 10 Major League seasons, all but one with Tampa Bay, he has hit .293 with 427 career steals, 115 home runs and 112 triples. He is a four-time American League All-Star and Gold Glove winner.
Tuesday night’s game is the final one on Portland’s homestand. The Sea Dogs travel to Manchester, NH to face the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
