AUBURN — Clinton Deschene, Auburn City Manager, announces the promotion of Denis D’Auteuil to Public Works Director. D’Auteuil, a Lewiston native and a graduate of St. Dominic’s Regional High School, has been employed by the city as Deputy Public Works Director for the past two years.

After graduation, D’Auteuil joined the U.S. Air Force and served four years in the 31st Transportation Unit based in Aviano, Italy. He also served in deployments to Kuwait and Oman. During that time, his personal achievements earned him the “Airman of the Year award.”

After active military service, he was hired by Superior Carriers and in 2005 was promoted to terminal manager. While there, he oversaw the day-to-day operations, involving more than 50 employees and a fleet of more than 60 tractor trailer units. Under his management, Superior Carriers achieved several safety awards, including an award from the Maine Motor Transport Association for excellence in fleet safety.

During the past two years, D’Auteuil has overseen general operations of the highway, engineering, fleet services and solid waste divisions of Auburn’s Public Works Department. During the past 17 months, he also has served as Public Services team leader, providing coordination and facilitation of projects for several departments. He has more than 13 years of combined experience in management roles and demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service, teamwork, training, safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness.

He earned an associates degree in management and marketing from the Kennebec Valley Community College and has completed levels I and II of the National Tank Truck Carriers Management series at Purdue University.
