AUBURN — Want to swap instead of shop for this year’s Halloween costume for your children?

Macaroni Kid– Androscoggin River Valley is partnering with Lamey Wellehan and the Auburn Public Library to the national Green Halloween families event to Androscoggin County. A Halloween costume swap will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St. This is recycling at its most fun.

According to the nonprofit Green Halloween®, families, swapping the costumes of only half of the children who celebrate Halloween would reduce the nation’s annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equivalent to the weight of 2,500 mid-size cars.

Here’s how the Costume Swap works:

Drop off your swap-able costumes between Sept. 19 and Oct. 5 to one of the two costume drop-off locations: Auburn Public Library Children’s Department, 49 Spring St., or Lamey Wellehan, 940 Turner St. Costumes can be dropped off any time during business hours at either location.

In exchange for each complete, clean, gently-worn costume, donors will receive one swap ticket to claim a new-to-you costume at the Oct. 6 event.

If you don’t have a costume to swap but still want to shop, parents are invited to come to the swap after 2:30 p.m. and purchase any costume for $5. Proceeds will benefit the Auburn Public Library Children’s Department.
