FARMINGTON — Registration for two soccer programs by the Recreation Department begins Tuesday, Sept. 4, and ends Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Community Center.

The Recreation Department office will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Instructional Soccer League begins its season for boys and girls in grades one to six who want to learn the fundamentals, refine playing skills, improve fitness levels and learn the rules of soccer.

Children ages 5 and 6 can begin learning soccer in a noncompetitive format through the Prep Soccer Program.

Instructional soccer, under direction of Niki Fulton-Greenlaw, is set up with divisions for children in grades one through three, and grades four through six.

Drills for both divisions begin Sunday, Sept. 9. The regular season starts at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 16 for Division I and 2:15 p.m. for Division II.  The regular season ends Oct. 14. A single elimination play is slated for the week of Oct. 16.

Any child participating in another fall soccer program is not allowed to register for the Instructional Soccer League.

The Prep soccer program, under the guidance of Mackenzie Conlogue, meets at 2:15 p.m. every Sunday for practice. The program will be split into two groups if the turnout is large.

There are no roster assignments, playing schedules or trophies for this six-week program, starting Sunday, Sept. 9, at Little League Park at Hippach Field. Children will learn about the sport and practice fundamentals through fun games, simple drills and short pickup scrimmages.

The registration fee for both programs is $25 for each player and $30 for nonresidents or who do not pay taxes to the town of Farmington.

No registrations will be accepted over the phone. For information, call the Farmington Recreation Department at 778-3464.
