AUBURN — A Turner man was indicted Wednesday, charged with intentionally running another man over with his car after an argument in June.
Joseph P. Dehetre, 28, of 89 East Hebron Road, was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault and charges of elevated aggravated assault, driving to endanger, reckless conduct and leaving the scene of an accident.
In the early evening July 23, 28-year-old Bret Martel of Auburn was run over by a car near the intersection of Parker and Summer streets, according to police reports. A witness said Dehetre, the driver of the 1992 Honda, had been arguing with Martel in the moments leading up to the crash.
The witness said Dehetre tried twice to run down Martel without success. He then tried one more time and succeeded, running down Martel in the roadway. With the victim down in the street, Dehetre drove away, the witness said.
He was arrested a short time later at a home in Minot.
Martel was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Dehetre was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail but was later freed on bail. He will be summoned to appear in court on the charges handed up by the grand jury on Wednesday.
