NEW PORTLAND — An Embden man died the evening of Aug. 31 after a car he was driving went out of control and struck a tree head-on on Wire Bridge Road, according to Somerset County Sheriff’s Department news release. Two passengers were injured in the crash.
Ryan Nile, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.
The two passengers in the vehicle, Nichole Nichols, 20, and Christopher Woodard, 27, both of Embden, were injured. They have since been released from hospitals.
Somerset County Cpl. Eugene Cole and Deputy Don Avery responded to investigate after the 9:41 p.m. report of a single-vehicle accident.
Nile was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica when the accident occurred near 92 Wire Bridge Road.
Nichols was transported by medical helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Woodward was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, the release states.
No further information was available Thursday, Lt. Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II said.
The accident was reconstructed by the Maine State Police, who assisted at the scene, along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, New Portland Fire Department, NorthStar Emergency Medical Services and A & M Ambulance Service.
The car was damaged beyond repair.
