AUBURN — The School Committee will have a workshop at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, to talk about how to give professional development time for middle- and high-school teachers.
In July the committee backed off a controversial proposal to have school start late every Wednesday after parents — and even one teacher — blasted the idea.
On July 18 Superintendent Katy Grondin recommended that the high school and middle school start two hours late every Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. The time would allow teachers to have professional development to learn new ways to teach under mass customized learning.
For years grade K-6 teachers have been getting weekly professional development time on Wednesdays with early dismissal. The half-day Wednesdays are unpopular with many in the community.
Parents said July 18 that students need more time in school, not less. By the time parents were done objecting, a majority of the board said July 18 they would not support weekly late arrival.
The workshop is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. in the council chambers of Auburn Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
