AUBURN — The cities are looking for volunteers for this year’s Parade of Lights, scheduled for Nov. 26.

This is the sixth year the cities of Lewiston and Auburn have combined efforts for their holiday celebration.

The parade is scheduled to start in Auburn this year, crossing the Longley Bridge into Lewiston and ending at Dufresne Plaza on Lisbon Street. Events are scheduled at Festival Plaza before the parade and at Dufresne Plaza, formerly Courthouse Plaza, afterward.

The evening’s events include pictures with Santa Claus, Christmas tree and menorah lighting, float judging, entertainment, wagon rides, story time, crafts and snacks.

The 2011 parade featured 18 floats, including firetrucks and public works vehicles from Lewiston and Auburn, the Edward Little High School marching band and a handful of floats created by Lewiston-Auburn families.

The 2012 parade theme is “Celebrating Cultural Holidays,” and the Auburn Business Association will select the floats.

People interested in entering a float should contact Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier at [email protected] or Jeremy Gatcomb, Auburn recreation program leader, at jgatcomb@ auburnmaine.gov.

The rain date is Nov. 28.
