OXFORD — Selectmen unanimously approved Thursday night an update to the Recreation Committee’s bylaws, a sticking point that delayed the reappointment of Recreation Committee members in June.
The only changes were an addition to address absences and lowering the maximum number of members from 12 to 11. Now, if a committee member misses three consecutive meetings, the Board of Selectmen must vote whether to consider his or her chair vacant or to excuse the absences.
When the board made appointments for several committees in June, they held off on reappointing Recreation Committee members. One of the planned reappointments was for Gary Smith, who had been accused of acting inappropriately and insulting players at a Cal Ripken Youth League baseball game.
Smith resigned from the committee in August.
