PARIS — A local company is contemplating a $1 million expansion in town, according to Town Clerk Elizabeth Knox.
During Monday’s selectboard meeting, Knox told selectmen the expansion could add up to 20 new jobs to the area.
The company did not want to release its name until after it had met with the selectmen to discuss a tax increment financing district for the expansion, Knox said.
“They’ve already got one [TIF], they’re looking to have another one for the expansion,” she told the board.
Selectman Robert Wessels asked whether the board had the authority to speak confidentially with company representatives.
Vice Chair Bob Kirchherr, after reviewing information from Maine Municipal Association, said that under MRSA 1 405 subsection 6 (C), the board had the authority to enter into executive session for acquisition of real estate or economic development.
“So we’d be able to keep this company’s confidence until they make it public?” Wessels asked.
“I believe so,” responded Kirchherr.
The board did not schedule a meeting with the company, but suggested it would be able to arrange a time to meet in early November.
