RANGELEY — A local man was being held without bail Thursday on a charge of sexual misconduct with a child under age 14.

Rangeley police arrested David F. Paquette, 35, on the felony charge at a Rumford home Wednesday, Rangeley police Chief Dennis Leahy said Thursday.

A conviction on the sexual misconduct charge carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Police received a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and began an investigation, Leahy said. Leahy and officer Jared Austin executed a search warrant at a Rangeley home Wednesday morning and collected several items as evidence, he said.

The chief and officer Ron Wood went to Rumford and were accompanied by Rumford police when they arrested Paquette outside a home there, Leahy said.

Paquette was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington. He is being held without bail, a corrections officer said.

He is expected to appear in court Friday to argue for bail to be set.

Paquette is expected to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on Feb. 22 in Farmington, Leahy said.
