Kristen Miale, left, president of Good Shepherd Food-Bank, and Ron Overko from Ocean State Job Lot, hold Ocean State’s “Three Square Meals” community meals assistance program banner recently at Good Shepherd Food-Bank’s Auburn distribution center. On Tuesday, a convoy of 10 tractor-trailer trucks loaded with 400,000 pounds of shelf-stable food, the equivalent of 333,330 meals, departed the Ocean State Job Lot warehouse in Rhode Island to deliver to 10 food banks in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and New York. It was the first installment of a 60-truckload donation totaling $1.25 million for 2013. It marks the largest single food donation of its kind by a private company in New England. Good Shepherd Food-Bank is among the organizations receiving a delivery of 40,000 pounds of food.
