DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 Monday evening to appoint interim Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky to all of the positions he held before he retired.
Skibitsky submitted his resignation Sept. 10, 2012, effective Jan. 3, after more than four years in the post. However, Chairman Mac Gill explained during the Jan. 28 selectmen’s meeting that the board would rehire Skibitsky as interim manager after they were unable to find a replacement.
“We were unsuccessful in our first search for a new town manager,” Gill said. “We decided to rehire Gene on an interim basis to run business and help us out until we can find somebody new.”
Skibitsky explained after the vote that he would be reappointed to each of his former roles, except for assistant welfare administrator, which he recommended go to secretary and Deputy Treasurer Samantha Ellis.
“I think she’ll do a fantastic job,” Skibitsky said. “She seems to have the knowledge and will do the job well.”
The board also voted unanimously to officially appoint Ellis as executive secretary to the town manager and the selectmen board.
In other business, Gill provided clarification to the recently revived public comment section to those in attendance.
“When I said no complaints during the previous meeting, I meant that complaints would not be allowed dealing with personnel issues,” Gill said. “We have to be able to protect our personnel from complaints. However, there is a difference between complaints and criticisms. Criticisms will be taken during public comment.”
