BRUNSWICK — A 39-year-old Brunswick man wielding a high-powered rifle held police at bay for more than five hours overnight Thursday after allegedly shooting the gun in his garage and threatening his family.

Matthew W. Senecal, 39, of Emerald Lane, was held on $25,000 bail after Brunswick police charged him with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon — both felonies, Brunswick Police Capt. Mark Waltz said Friday.

Brunswick police responded just after midnight to a report of shots fired at the Emerald Lane home that Senecal shares with his wife and two young children.

Senecal allegedly fired at least one shot in the garage attached to his home, after which his wife and children fled and called the police from a neighbor’s home, Waltz said.

Senecal refused to leave the building, and the Brunswick Police Department’s Special Response Team blocked off a portion of the adjacent Collinsbrook Road while they attempted to convince Senecal to come out.

At 5 a.m., a reverse-911 call was scheduled to warn neighbors within a half-mile of 31 Emerald Lane to stay away from their windows, Waltz said.

At approximately 5:40 a.m., Senecal surrendered and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported. Senecal is scheduled to appear in Cumbrerland County Court on May 21.
