FARMINGTON — A Franklin County Superior Court justice denied a request to amend a Rangeley man’s bail on felony sex charges Monday.

David Paquette, 35, pleaded not guilty in February to felony charges of unlawful sexual contact and sexual misconduct with a child. He was indicted in January.

Paquette has been held in jail on $20,000 cash bail since his arrest in December.

Paquette’s attorney, David Sanders, asked the court last month to lower bail to $500 with a pretrial service agreement. He said under the agreement developed by Richard Simcock, who manages them in Franklin County, Paquette would live in Rumford and work to pay for rent and other expenses.

Sanders said he was concerned about the condition that his client would be forbidden to possess or watch video, media or any motion picture.

Paquette is charged in this case with allowing a 7-year-old to watch a pornographic movie, he said.

Sanders said he has received no evidentiary materials on the charges. The only police report he has, he said, states that the child said there was no contact.

Sanders asked Monday that Paquette be released on personal recognizance bail and a pretrial agreement, with the condition that he be allowed to watch television.

Assistant District Attorney Joshua Robbins told the court that Paquette’s criminal history included a 2008 conviction on unlawful sexual contact, for which he received a two-year sentence, and a 2007 conviction of allowing a minor to possess liquor. He also said there were two probation violations in 2008. Among other convictions, Robbins cited several violations of condition of release and a 2002 conviction of trafficking in illegal drugs.

Sanders said his client and his family do not have the cash for bail.

Justice Murphy said she would not change the bail.

She also told state prosecutors if they have information related to the charges, they need to get it to Sanders immediately.
