LISBON – In what he called “an effort to streamline our meetings,” Town Council Chairman Fern Larochelle announced Tuesday night that meeting rules will be strictly enforced.

The council has allowed comments and questions from the audience relating to a wide variety of issues in the past, but it will now restrict these to items on the agenda.

Larochelle asked Town Clerk Twila Lycette to read the portion of the meeting rules that apply to public comments. The rules say public comments during the “audience participation” portion of the meeting must relate to an agenda item, and that public comments may be accepted by the chairman as each agenda item is discussed.

“We’re just trying to abide by our own rules,” Larochelle said. “We’re here a half-hour before each meeting, so anyone can bring up any issues they want during that time.”

The only response to the announcement came from Dorothy Fitzgerald, who said, “Yes, the meetings have gotten very streamlined. There are very few items on the agenda.”

The remainder of the meeting consisted of approval of minutes, announcements from the town manager, committee appointments and a zoning ordinance amendment.

Planning Board Chairman Don Fellows thanked the council for approving the zoning amendment, saying the change in wording relating to conditional use “will make the process very much smoother.”

The council approved a special entertainment license for the Railroad Restaurant & Pub, and a victualer’s license for the Village Café.
