PORTLAND (AP) — A dispute between a Portland charter school and its fired founder is moving to the courtroom.

The board of Baxter Academy for Technology and Science has sued founder John Jaques, demanding that he turn over all school property that he still controls online.

Jaques’ attorney told The Portland Press Herald on Monday that he plans to countersue the school for defamation.

Jaques was fired by the board last week for alleged mismanagement.

Jaques’ lawyer said his client has returned everything the school sought, but retains control of the original website and Facebook page. Jaques wants compensation for what he calls his intellectual property.

The school has since started a new website and Facebook page.
