BETHEL — SAD 44 stands to lose about $175,000 in state aid and may have to pay $125,000 toward teacher retirement accounts, Superintendent David Murphy said Tuesday.

He said the Finance Committee is working on a 2013-14 budget, which is expected to be brought to the board in May and to voters after that.

This year’s budget is $9.9 million.

Murphy said he learned the district has received two grants totaling $55,000 from the Oxford County Emergency Management Agency to improve safety. Nearly $50,000 is for a new portable generator for the three elementary schools in Bethel, Woodstock and Andover. Telstar Regional Middle/High School has one.

Another $5,000 is for 40 Safety Mates, hand-held devices that can quickly provide instructions for life threatening medical situations. Murphy said building and transportation director Ron Deegan will lead the training sessions for the new machines.
