OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) — The decision by the Old Orchard Beach town council to fire the town manager has led to a backlash, with residents launching an effort to recall four councilors.
The seven-member recall committee wants to recall council Chairwoman Sharri MacDonald, Vice Chairwoman Laura Bolduc and two others. All four voted last week to fire Town Manager Mark Pearson.
The committee said Pearson was doing a good job, was fired without cause, and the decision to terminate him has opened the town up to lawsuits.
The committee told the Journal Tribune it is made up of two Republicans, three Democrats and two independents.
MacDonald said the recall effort will add to the divisiveness in town and she hopes people with concerns about how the town is run will talk to her.
