DIXFIELD – Swasey Torrey American Legion Post 100 will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a March Madness dinner and dance party Saturday, March 16.
According to Edward Ellis, the first vice commander and finance officer, this will be “the first time in a couple years” that Post has hosted a St. Patrick’s Day party.
“Last year, we just didn’t have the time to prepare,” Ellis said. “However, this party has been in the works for over a month. We have plans for food, music and everything else.”
The dinner will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., with food prepared by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
“They’re cooking up some ham, potatoes, boiled cabbage, corned beef, the whole nine yards,” Ellis said. “I just saw some of the women leaving with two big crock-pots, so they’re getting ready for it.”
Following the dinner, a dance will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. with music provided by Noel Palmer and Don, a music group from Rumford.
“Noel Palmer and Don played for us on New Year’s Eve, and we’ve already got them scheduled to play at this year’s New Year’s Eve party,” Ellis said. “They’re quite popular around here.”
Ellis said the supper will cost $5, the dance will cost $7, or $12 to purchase tickets to both of them. All proceeds will go toward funding upcoming legion events.
“We have some events coming up, and some small donations we’d like to get out there,” Ellis said. “Every little bit helps.”
