The Young Professionals of the Lewiston Auburn Area have created a two-week-long activity scavenger hunt in an effort to educate, motivate and recruit the next generation of community leaders.

“Y-Not” will send teams of young professionals across Lewiston-Auburn to complete a series of tasks. The tasks — such as touring Bates Mill No. 5 and attending the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival — will be assigned a point value. At the end of the program, teams will win prizes based on those points.

Throughout the two-week project, teams will also be encouraged to photograph, videotape and talk online about their experiences.

“We’re trying to really put a lot of positive content out there about what a great community this is, and we hope that we can play some small part in helping the community continue the great path it’s on,” YPLAA Chairman Michael Malloy said.

Team submissions will be posted on SunJournal.com. The Sun Journal is a sponsor of Y-Not.

Participants can sign up for Y-Not at www.yplaa.com through Tuesday. Each participant will be assigned a five-member team. So far, 50 people have signed up.

The program will kick off Thursday at the Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn and will run through April 11. The finale celebration will be held May 18.

The program is funded by a grant from the Thayer Corp., as well as a project grant from the Maine Development Foundation. Several area businesses and organizations are also sponsoring the project, providing prizes or participating in tasks.
