FARMINGTON — A Dixfield man was arrested Sunday when a verbal dispute over an unpaid bill escalated into a physical confrontation and a Carthage man ended up stabbed with a screwdriver in the forearm.
Peter Gallant, 40, was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault, Franklin County Sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
Apparently Gallant had gone to the home on West Side Road in Carthage to collect money he was owed for doing electrical work about a year ago, he said.
The money owed is about $850, Yeaton said, reading from Deputy Nathan Reid’s report.
The man Gallant did the work for told him that he didn’t have the money to pay, he said.
Gallant left the residence and returned shortly after with a screwdriver and attempted to disconnect the power.
The man at the residence confronted Gallant to try and stop him, Yeaton said.
The two got into a verbal dispute that escalated into physical contact, and the Carthage man was stabbed in his right forearm with the screwdriver, he said. He told deputies he planned to seek medical attention for the wound.

Gallant was released from Franklin County Jail on Monday after posting $300 cash bail.
He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on May 15.
