NORWAY — The town is advertising a seven-acre parcel on Pikes Hill for sale.
The property, which was taken by the town for nonpayment of taxes, will be advertised this week at a minimum price of $28,000.
“That covers all the cleanup and back taxes,” Town Manager David Holt said of the property at 157 Pikes Hill Road. A total of $27,404.64 was owed as of April 18, according to town records.
The property was owned by Christopher and Mary Buckley and was the scene of a fire in the spring of 2011. The cause of the blaze that destroyed their century-old home was thought to be electrical.
Following the fire, Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman notified the Buckleys that the property had to be cleaned up.
In August 2011, local contractor Scott Roberts began the cleanup for the town after officials said the owners failed to. The town put a lien on the property to recoup the cost.
The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to put the property up for sale. The board had put it out for sale in the fall of 2012, but halted the bidding when it was determined that all the family members may not have been advised of the sale.
Holt said the house and debris have been removed, but it is unclear if a camper that remains on the site is included in the sale.
Selectman Irene Millett said the value of the property lies in its road frontage. There is a septic system and a well on the property but town officials said they are unsure of their condition.
If the property does not sell, the board said it would revisit the issue in a few months and decide on alternatives.
