RUMFORD — The Hope Association will host its third annual Anything Goes spring craft fair and indoor lawn sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 at its building at 85 Lincoln Ave.

According to Andy Beauchesne of the association, all proceeds will go toward helping the organization be involved with Maine Special Olympics, which it has not been able to do for a while.

“This will allow us to participate in the Special Olympics program again,” Beauchesne explained.

In a Jan. 14 interview, Executive Director Catherine Johnson said it has been five or six years since the association has been involved with Special Olympics Maine games, although its clients engage in the same types of activities.

Hope Association provides a wide range of services for people with developmental disabilities.

Among the activities offered at the craft fair and lawn sale are children’s games, face paintings for 25 cents, raffles, a Chinese Auction, a cookie walk and food available for purchase.

“The Hope Association will have four different tables set up with different crafts available,” Beauchesne said. “We’ll be offering different crafts that our staff and clients made. The rest of the space will be taken up by people who rented out tables.”

In addition to the indoor activities, a car wash will be available for $4, weather permitting.

The association will also be visited by Mexico resident Rob White, commonly known around the community as “Snake Man.”

“He brings in live snakes and tells us all about them,” Beauchesne said. “He has all kinds of different snakes, but none of them are dangerous. It’s really cool. He lets you hold them, tells you what they eat and tells different little stories about them.”

White will be available from  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Briar Patch, which will hold its grand opening on May 6, will also be open and offer free potted or planted flowers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to kids 12 and under, while supplies last.
