WILTON — The driver of a loaded tractor-trailer faces a charge of distracted driving after his rig struck the back of a car stopped to make a turn on Burgess Hill on Monday morning, police said.

The truck driven by Douglas Wakefield, 56, of Lowell, and the car driven by Marissa Woodcock, 19, Wilton, were traveling west on Route 2 about 7:30 a.m. Monday, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

A passenger in the car, Owynn Wilson, 1½ years old, was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital for evaluation, she said. Also in the car were Brook Register, 20, of Wilton and Olivia Register, 2. Both children were in car seats, Wilcox said. There were no known injuries, she said.

Woodcock stopped to make a left turn into Head Start, formerly SeniorsPlus, when Wakefield came up behind her and struck the back of her 2006 Saab.

The Saab was totaled and hauled from the scene by Dutch Gap Auto. The Freighter truck loaded with wood received minor damage and was driven from the scene.

Traffic slowed significantly while Wilton Officer Derek Daley investigated the crash.

Wilton Fire Department, Deputy Sandy Burke from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and NorthStar ambulance helped at the scene, she said.
