FARMINGTON — The Planning Board unanimously approved Monday all applications necessary for construction of a parking area on Anson Street and expansion of the Pismo gravel pit in Fairbanks.
Craig Jordan requested approval to build a 20-lot parking area at 112 Anson St. to help accommodate some of his downtown tenants. The vacant lot is located across from the Franklin County Courthouse parking lot, according to his application.
The tenants currently park at his property at 124 Main St., where the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is located. It abuts the Anson Street property, he said. The two parking areas will not be connected.
“It’s a simple deal, no lighting, just a gravel lot,” he told the board.
Jordan said he would perhaps consider renting spaces to other downtown tenants but didn’t start the project for that reason.
In other business, Rick Jones of Jones Consultants explained a plan for Vining Mining LLC to expand its existing Pismo gravel pit along the Sandy River shores.
It is located off the Fairbanks Road with an entrance just above the Fairbanks Bridge, Jones said.
Although the pit is about 20 acres, Jones said no more than 10 acres would be open to excavation at any one time. Once excavation nears the 10-acre point, parts of the pit will be put to bed, he said.
While the Vinings own and mine several pits according to what is needed for any given project, the Pismo gravel pit is not expected to be highly used.
Perhaps one trip a day, maybe as many as 20 on a really, really busy day, Judy Vining told the board.
