LEWISTON — Lewiston Public Library will host award-winning astrophysicist and national lecturer Kevin Manning for an all-ages Cornerstones of Science program, “Astronomy for Everyone: Size and Scale of the Universe,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in Callahan Hall.

Manning will lead an educational and entertaining exploration of the universe, the stars and other celestial wonders, using hands-on activities and assorted visuals.

Following the presentation, weather permitting, he will take attendees on a night sky viewing of celestial objects such as the rings of Saturn and craters on the moon through a powerful handcrafted telescope.

Manning is a retired astrophysicist, having worked as a consultant with NASA, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory launched on the space shuttle with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and other ground-based observatories. He won national and international awards in his field and did some work with Brookhaven National Laboratory.
