AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife recently announced that its former spokesman Mark Latti is the department’s new Bureau of Resource Management’s promotional coordinator.

Latti, who started May 6, left his job of 1½ years as the department’s landowner relations/public access coordinator. Prior to that, he served nine years as the MDIFW spokesman and four years as public information officer for the Maine Department of Transportation.

Latti has also been a reporter, outdoor columnist, newspaper editor, photographer and communications manager at Sugarloaf USA in Carrabassett Valley.

“It’s an extension of what I’ve done before, but with a focus on the wildlife and fisheries divisions,” Latti said late Tuesday afternoon in Augusta.

The Bureau of Resource Management is tasked with managing Maine’s wildlife and inland fisheries resources for their protection, preservation, enhancement and use; managing fish propagation in public waters; habitat management; collecting data and doing research; coordinating animal damage control functions throughout Maine; and developing rules to govern such management.

Latti said he will be working closely with fisheries and wildlife biologists, promoting their work and accomplishments via the department’s Facebook site, at conferences, trade shows and through traditional media.

“They were banding peregrine falcon chicks yesterday, so that was neat,” he said.

The May 3 issue of the department’s Weekly Report stated that Latti has coordinated communications, press conferences, media events and newsletters, as well as developed strategic marketing plans.

“Mark’s experience in these areas and with education/outreach using websites, social media, press releases, PSAs and other marketing tools will serve us well in his new duties,” the report stated.
