OXFORD — Selectmen on Thursday remembered Dennis Sanborn, a selectman who passed away at his home on May 6 at age 75, and accepted a donation to the town in his memory.

Sanborn had served on the board 10 years.

“He will be missed,” Town Manager Michael Chammings said.

The board accepted a $10,000 donation in Sanborn’s name from Robert and Sandra Bahre to pay for the snack shack at the Pismo Beach ball field. “Bob was fond of Dennis and vice versa,” Chammings told the board.

Chammings credited Sanborn with first pushing to improve the ball field, particularly in pushing to add a new softball field. “If it weren’t for Dennis, it wouldn’t be where it is right now,” he said. “Bob knew that and wanted to donate to the building of that shack.”

The board voted unanimously to accept the donation.

Sanborn belonged to countless local groups, including the Oxford Lodge and Kora Shrine.

Chammings recommended the board wait until November to elect a new board member. He said the process of nominating candidates and notifying the public of an election takes 85 days, and there would only be five or six selectmen’s meetings between the earliest time for a special election and the November general election.
