BUCKFIELD — Voters will act on a $2.12 million municipal budget for 2013-14, and decide whether to borrow up to $1 million for a new fire and rescue station at the June 15 annual town meeting.

If the proposed budget passes as recommended by selectman, the tax rate is expected to drop 35 cents.

The proposed budget is $2,125,761.45, or $21,775.79 less than the 2012-13 fiscal year.

Selectmen and Budget Committee differed on the Recreation Committee appropriation. Selectmen recommend $16,625; the Budget Committee $13,525. Last year, $18,335 was approved.

They also differed on the summer roads budget. Selectmen recommend $222,685 and the Budget Committee $136,785. Last year $351,905 was approved.

Neither group recommended funding for social services. Last year, $4,632 was approved.

The fire/rescue station article asks voters to approve a loan of up to $1 million to build a new station. The current one has many code issues, officials have said.

There will also be a referendum question asking voters if they favor withdrawing from RSU 10 and forming a withdrawal committee to spend up to $20,000 for this purpose.

They will also vote on an appeals ordinance.

The annual town meeting is set for 9 a.m. June 15 at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.

In the June 11 annual elections, Cheryl Coffman and Glen Holmes are running for a three-year position as selectman and assessor. The winner will succeed Robin Buswell who resigned.

Michelle Casey is running for RSU 10 director against incumbent Maida Demers-Dobson.

Voting will take place at the municipal building.
