LIVERMORE FALLS — Jean Castonguay Excavating will take down the apartment building at 2 Gagnon St., Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Friday.

The Livermore Falls company was the only one to bid on demolishing the town-owned business, she said. The bid was $8,975.

The town foreclosed on the vacant property several years ago for $4,071.59 in unpaid taxes and sewer fees.

The money for the demolition will come out of the $25,000 voters agreed to transfer from the undesignated fund to demolish the building in the current budget.

The company will haul the debris to Norridgewock and the town will pay the tipping fee to get rid of the material, Flagg said.

Gagnon Street, located off Route 4 and Bemis Street, will be closed while the demolition is going on.

The building is located on a hill and is adjacent to property owned by the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Jay.
