AUGUSTA (AP) — Gas prices in Maine are essentially holding steady even as the national average falls slightly.

Price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com reports Monday that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas in Maine has risen by less than a penny in the past week to $3.57.

The in-state prices is still 4 cents below the national average, which dropped by more than 2 cents per gallon in the past week.

Maine prices are now almost 7 cents higher than at the same time a year ago, and almost 4 cents higher than a month ago.

The Maine prices are based on a survey of more than 1,200 gas stations in the state.
