Rebekahs plan turkey dinner

LISBON — A roast turkey dinner will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Odd Fellows Hall, 27 Village St.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 12 and under, free for preschoolers.

The dinner is hosted by Nina Rebekah Lodge 86 and Sabattus River Lodge 21.

Strawberry festival June 29

BOWDOIN — West Bowdoin Baptist Church will hold its annual strawberry festival from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at 54 West Road.

A bean supper will be served featuring strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 12 and under and free for preschoolers.

The meal is hosted by the Mission Circle.

Spaghetti supper set for June 29

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Bible Church, 218 Lewiston Road, Route 100, will sponsor a benefit spaghetti supper at the church on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The proceeds will benefit the proposed New Gloucester Veterans’ Monument. A large-scale model of the monument will be on display.

Free parenting, health classes

LEWISTON — A free parenting class, “Creating Healthy Happy Families” with Kim Mazone, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 1.

In a free lecture, Dr. Timothy Howe will discuss “Your Health and Epigenetics” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.

WAYNE — A silent auction will be held from July 2 to 6 at Wayne Community Church, Old Winthrop Road.

Reading of Declaration

NEW GLOUCESTER — A public reading of the Declaration Of Independence will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at the New Gloucester History Barn behind the Town Hall on Route 231. All are welcome.

The event is sponsored by the members and friends of the New Gloucester Historical Society.

Cruise benefits HIV nonprofit

PORTLAND — The annual July 4th Casco Bay Cruise to benefit All About Prevention will be held from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Casco Bay Line Terminal, Commercial Street.

Music will be provided by DJ Haunt. There will be hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and viewing of the Portland fireworks, weather permitting.

Open house, photo contest

TURNER — On the Fourth of July as part of the festivities in town, the Turner Natural History Club Museum will have an open house and it annual photo contest. The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 442 Turner Center Road.

Photos may be submitted from 9 to 11 a.m. with judging at 11. Anyone, professional or amateur, may enter. Categories are Landscape, Birds and Animals. Children are especially urged to participate. Entries may be from any camera in any format, framed or not. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded.

All ages will enjoy touring the museum, which has thousands of natural exhibits such as minerals, sea shells, birds and bird eggs, tree cones, snake skins and much more.

Turner Library annual book sale

TURNER — The Turner Public Library will hold its annual Book Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6.

There will be thousands of books, an especially inviting children’s area, and videos, CDs and DVDs. Hardcovers $1, paperbacks 50 cents and children’s books four for $1. Some books specially priced.
