Nick Pratt uses a jackhammer to remove brick on what is left of a giant smokestack that was a prominent part of the Lewiton skyline for over a century. It vented the smoke from four giant coal fired boilers that heated and powered the Pepperell Mill at the corner of Lisbon Street and Adams Avenue in Lewiston. The mill is now owned by Scott Ferland, who said the project has been ongoing for several weeks after bricks began falling off and going through the roof of the adjacent building that he is now being rented. “The first 30 feet didn’t even need to be jackhammered, they just came off by hand.” said Ferland.
