DURHAM — Three people were taken to a Lewiston hospital following a three-vehicle pileup Thursday on Pinkham Brook Road.

A man who was ejected from one of the vehicles was critically injured, police said. He was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center along with two others who had to be extricated from the wreckage by fire crews.

Maine State Police were investigating the collision, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. at Quaker Meetinghouse and Pinkham Brook roads. Pinkham Brook Road is also Route 125.

State police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash later Thursday night. Police said witnesses reported that the driver of one vehicle, headed west on Quaker Meetinghouse Road, ran through a stop sign and collided with the other two vehicles.

The names of the victims were not immediately available. Police were reconstructing the crash site and waiting to speak with victims at the hospital.

The commuter-hour wreck brought rescue crews from several towns, including Durham, Freeport and Lisbon.
