WILTON — Wilton Day Homemakers met on Oct. 10. Twenty-one members were present, with one guest, Mary Lynch of Strong.

A thank-you was give by Becky Tyler for all the help to get all the paper work in on time. Also a thank-you went out to those who volunteered at the Farmington Fair at the Extension Booth, and a reminder for those to write their time down for doing so.

Treasurer’s report showed no change.

Betty Douglas’s safety tip was to post emergency numbers by the phone and add them to your cell phone. Put ICE into your cellphone; in case of an emergency, first responders will check this out if you cannot talk.

The next meeting will be Nov. 14. Members also will be making decorations for the Rotary Christmas Tree and making pot holders.

The meeting program by Becky Tyler was on gluten-free. Topics included why a gluten-free diet may not be right for you. Some people are doing the gluten-free diet in hopes of losing weight. But it is designed for people to gain weight instead, she said.

Celiac disease was also discussed. Having celiac disease means you cannot eat gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye or barley.

Members learned what gluten is, how to bake without gluten and use replacement products.

Lunch was served.

Craft day was held on Oct. 17 with 11 members present to do posters for the Christmas craft fair on Nov. 16 and to make pot holders for the fair.
