Duplicate Bridge Club results

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Nov. 22 in the rec. building, where an eight table Mitchell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A N/S were Eleanor and Lindy Wigton (Lewiston), who also were first in flights B and C; second, Nancy Farmer (Norway) and Mike Newsom (Norway); third, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr (South Paris), who also were third in flight B and second in flight C; fourth, Barbara Newcomb (Portland) and Joanne Skinner (Westbrook), who also were second in flight B; third in flight B were Claire Lyons (Lewiston) and Jim Dickens (Naples); third in flight C, Karen Mac Neil (Raymond) and Marjorie Levesque (Raymond).

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Fred Letourneau (Winslow) and Luke Merry (Gray); second, Mike St. John (Westbrook) and Mike True (Auburn); third, Neenie Kivus (Lewiston) and David Lock (Greene); fourth, Cynthia Clifford and Bill Clifford Jr. (Lewiston), who were also first in flight B; second in flight B, Carol Curran (Raymond) and Barbara Vanderzanden (Lovell); second in flight C, Milt McKeen (Bridgton) and Jim Krainin (Naples); third in flight C, Hank Sakrison (Poland) and Denny Raymond (Waterford).

Balance screening, cancer support

NORWAY — Free monthly balance screening for all adults ages 60 and older is offered on the second Thursday of every month, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Cancer Support Group for Women is offered the first Monday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. The group is for any woman who has experienced a cancer diagnosis, past or present. These events take place at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Nov. 25 were as follows: first, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; second, Dick Allen and Luke Merry; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; first in B, Ellie and George Wigton; second, Cynthia and Bill Clifford.

Bethel Senior Citizens Club

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Bethel Inn.

Menu is choice of turkey or baked haddock.

Price is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Reservations must be made before Dec. 1 by calling Caroline at 824-3226 or Arlene at 824-2877.

The bus for the Dec. 5 trip to the Victorian Mansion in Portland will leave the Bethel Health Center at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Price is $13.

West Paris food pantry

WEST PARIS — The Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St.

The pantry is open the first and third Tuesday of each month. West Paris residents are invited to come once a month.

Spurrs Corner food pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Star Party at the Paris Library

PARIS —  Ron Thompson, Cornerstones of Science’s Library Telescope Program Ambassador, will be visiting the Paris Public Library at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Thompson will begin inside discussing basic astronomy and introducing how a telescope works, before leading participants outside for a sky tour with sky maps and viewing night sky objects through a telescope. If the sky is overcast that evening, Thompson will instead be visiting the following Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The program welcomes all, but is best for ages 10 and older. Younger children sometimes have difficulty viewing through telescope eyepieces and should be accompanied by an adult.

Christmas in Harrison is Dec. 5-7

HARRISON — “A Children’s Christmas” will be the theme of the annual Christmas in Harrison event from Thursday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Dec. 7.

A parade will be held Saturday at 9:30.

Dance benefits Sally Courtney, family

OXFORD — A benefit dance for grades 4-8 on behalf of Sally Courtney and family, due to a house fire, will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Oxford Legion Post 112.

Ham supper is Dec. 6

OXFORD — Oxford Advent Christian Church will hold a ham supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Daddy O’s Restaurant, 901 Main St., Route 26.

Meal includes mashed potato, carrots, coleslaw, beverage and dessert.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under.

All proceeds will benefit the church’s 2014 mission trip to 99+1 Ministries in San Felipe, Mexico.
