OXFORD — Sleeping at the wheel apparently caused a crash that injured two Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to Lt. Mike Ward of the Oxford Police Department, Tammy Taketa, 25, of Harrison was traveling west on Route 121 in Oxford around 4:45 p.m when she apparently dozed off.

Ward said the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu she was driving drifted off the roadway, crashing into an embankment before coming to a stop.

Taketa and her passenger, Ben Minoty, were taken to Stephen’s Memorial Hospital with what Ward deemed “minor injuries.”

Ward said the vehicle was a total loss. The incident is still under investigation.
