AUBURN — Sophomore Drew Lashua smacked a single to drive in teammate Luke Sterling in the bottom of the ninth inning as Edward Little edged Mt. Ararat 8-7 in KVAC action Wednesday.
Lashua, who caught and pitched for the Eddies (5-3), also had three hits. Mike Hammond, Llewellyn Jensen, Brandon Varney and Corey Henderson paced the Edward Little offense with two hits apiece. Nathan Pushard closed out the game on the mound to pick up the win.
Mt. Ararat’s Cameron Cox and Kevin Carter chipped in a pair of hits each for the Eagles (1-8).
Lewiston 4, Brunswick 2
LEWISTON — Eddie Emerson threw a gem of a baseball game, striking out 11 while walking just one batter to propel Lewiston to a 4-2 victory over Brunswick in a boys’ baseball contest Wednesday.
Austin Wing batted in a pair of runs on two hits for the Blue Devils (5-4). Nick Perreault sliced the only extra base hit in the game with a double.
Brady Larson recorded five strikeouts on the mound for the Dragons, who drop to 5-3 on the season.
Oak Hill 8, Hall-Dale 1
WALES — Five hits in a row led to a big fifth inning that pushed Oak Hill to an 8-1 victory over Hall-Dale in a boys’ MVC baseball match up.
Parker Asselin led the Raider bats with three hits and a pair of RBI’s. Jake Martin and Dalton Therrien played a big part in the offense, chipping in a pair of hits each.
Asselin recorded the win on the mound, keeping the Bulldogs offense scoreless and striking out five for Oak Hill (8-2).
Sam Moulton batted in the lone run for Hall-Dale (4-5) off a fielder’s choice in the top of the seventh inning.
Dirigo 7, Mt. Abram 6
DIXFIELD — Anthony Todd drilled a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Dirigo beat Mt. Abram 7-6 in another MVC baseball match up.
Tyler Frost scattered three hits and knocked in a pair of runs. Frost picked up the win on the mound, improving to 1-0. The Cougars (7-1), rallied three runs in the final frame to secure the win.
Arthur Ryan smacked three hits for Mt. Abram (3-6), while Tristen Dyer took the loss on the mound in relief.
Winthrop 5, Wiscasset 2
WINTHROP — Timely hitting and a strong pitching effort from Zach Steele and Jacob Hickey gave Winthrop the advantage as they topped Wiscasset 5-2 in MVC baseball action.
Drew Stratton launched a home run for the Ramblers (4-4), while Cabot Lancaster and Dakota Carter scattered a double each. Ben Allen batted in a run while going 2-for-3 from the plate. Steele took the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing two earned runs.
For Wiscasset (4-5), Chandler Longfellow drove in a run, while picking up a pair of hits and a double. Daren Wood took the loss on the mound.
Lisbon 10, Boothbay 0
LISBON FALLS — The Greyhounds made quick work of the Seahawks on Wednesday, allowing just two hits while tacking on 10 runs in five innings to propel Lisbon to a 10-0 victory over Boothbay in an MVC baseball game.
Tyler Halls took the start on the mound, going two innings while striking out four. Noah Francis came in for relief and sat down six batters. Bourget led the offense going 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBI’s on the afternoon. Halls and Ryley Austin chipped in for the Greyhounds (7-2), with two hits apiece.
John Vise took the loss on the mound while picking up the only two hits for the Seahawks, as they fall to 0-8 with the loss.
Buckfield sweeps
BUCKFIELD — Tyler Vallee allowed just two hits through five innings as Buckfield rolled to a 12-2 victory over Vinalhaven in the first game of a doubleheader in boys’ baseball.
Catcher Jared Eastman scored twice and had two hits for the Bucks (3-3). Buckfield led 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth and strung together a seven-run inning to close the game out in five. Lewis Cray and Elijah Ames combined efforts on the mound for Vinalhaven (2-3).
In the second game, a six-run sixth inning launched Buckfield to a 13-7 victory over Vinalhaven. Timely hitting from Jonah Williams gave the Bucks the edge. Williams knocked in three runs while crossing the plate three times himself.
Vallee, Eastman and Keenan Stockdale all contributed with a pair of hits for the Bucks (4-3). Zeb Campbell led the Vikings (2-4) with three hits on the day and a double.
Spruce Mountain 8, Madison 2
MADISON — John McKenna scattered five hits and had five teammates register multiple hits as Spruce Mountain raced outgunned Madison 8-2 in an MVC baseball tilt Wednesday.
Ian O’Donnell led the Phoenix (4-4) with three hits, while Scottie Hall, Dylan Smith, Noah Preble and McKenna all pounded out two hits.
Brian Edgerly led the Bulldogs (2-7) with an RBI double in the third. Chase Malloy went the distance, giving up 15 hits in the contest.
Oxford Hills 3, Skowhegan 0
SKOWHEGAN — Riley Chickering scattered three hits in seven innings as Oxford Hills blanked Skowhegan 3-0 win Wednesday.
Dalton Rice led the Vikings (5-3) with two hits and one RBI, while Nick Bowie’s RBI double in the fifth proved to be the game-winning run.
Dallon Stevens led the Indians (2-7) with two hits, while Chase Nelson was suffered the loss after pitching a full game.
Poland 6, Yarmouth 1
YARMOUTH — Lukas Johnson scattered three hits in seven innings as Poland overpowered Yarmouth 6-1 in a WMC baseball tilt Wednesday.
Shawn Murphy led the Knights with two hits and two RBIs, while Johnson helped his own cause with two hits.
Matt Ingalls led Yarmouth with an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Boys’ lacrosse
Gardiner 10, St. Dom’s 4
GARDINER — Josh Caldwell and Alex Nadeau combined for six goals as Gardiner rolled to a 10-4 victory over St. Dom’s in boys’ lacrosse action.
JD Crocker hauled in 11 saves for the Tigers (4-1), while limiting the Saints’ scoring. Walker Norton paced Gardiner with a pair of goals as well. For St. Dom’s (2-3), Austin Roy recorded two goals. Alex Michaud took the loss in net for the Saints, turning back 17 shots.
Camden Hills 17, Mountain Valley 2
RUMFORD — Camden Hills was firing on all cylinders, utilizing nine scorers, as Camden Hills put away Mountain Valley 17-2 in a boys’ lacrosse contest.
Marshall Spear hurled in five goals, while Parker Lawson netted a hat trick. Yani Stancioff chipped in three goals as well, while vetern Aiden Gordon recorded 13 saves in net. Camden Hills improves to 3-4 on the season with the win. Corbin and Jared Arsenault tallied the lone goals for the Falcons (1-5). Coyote Freeman and Tyler Perry shared time in net.

Softball
Oxford Hills 1, Skowhegan 0
SKOWHEGAN — Crystal West ripped an RBI double in the fourth inning to give Oxford Hills a 1-0 win over Skowhegan in more KVAC softball action Wednesday. The victory avenged a 21-2 loss to the Indians in the regular season opener last month.
West also earned the pitching win, scattering three hits in seven innings of work. Myriah Lausier made a key play for the Vikings (6-2) at third, catching a line drive when Skowhegan had the bases loaded in the third inning.
Catcher Annika Kahkonen also contributed when she picked off a runner in the fifth frame.
Hall-Dale 10, Oak Hill 2
WALES — Olivia Maynard scattered four hits as Hall-Dale hustled to a 10-2 victory over Oak Hill in a KVAC softball matchup Wednesday.
Maynard also helped the Bulldogs’ (8-2) cause with three hits and one RBI, while Emma Begin belted out two hits.
The Raiders (5-5) were paced by Grace Sabine and Emma Hlister with doubles.
EL 4, Mt. Ararat 2
AUBURN — Molly Murray pitched a two-hitter to lead Edward Little to a 4-2 mid-season victory over Mt. Ararat in more KVAC softball action.
Murray also led the Red Eddies (5-3) with two hits and one RBI in a strong. Brooke Reynolds also contributed with a double.
The Eagles (2-6) were paced by Sara Lamb and Kate Guerin, who each belted out doubles. Alana Weaver went the distance and suffered the loss.
Dirigo 9, Mt. Abram 4
DIXFIELD — Kenzie Lord ignited a six-run rally in the second frame, as Dirigo hustled to a 9-4 victory over Mt. Abram Wednesday.
Lord smacked an RBI double to spark that big second inning. Bryce Parent followed with an RBI triple as the Cougars’ offense hit high gear. Katelyn Olsen gave up five hits and two earned runs for Dirigo.
The Roadrunners were paced by Abbie Brackley and Jacey Davenport with two hits apiece.
Buckfield gets swept
BUCKFIELD — For two games, Buckfield stayed close, even lead, but Vinalhaven found a way to hold off the Bucks to beat them twice — 6-5 in game 1 and 12-8 in the second game of a softball doubleheader Wednesday.
In the first game, the Bucks (5-4) held a 5-2 lead after three innings before the Vikings (4-2) marched back with four more runs over the next three innings.
Pitcher Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes had six strikeouts and teammate Bethany Candage doubled. For the Bucks, Courtney Lowell had two singles.
In Game 2, the Vikings jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings before the Bucks erupted with eight runs over the next three, but it wasn’t enough. Candage tripled twice and had four hits for the day. Hannah Gallant doubled and Alannah Knox and Alexis Bennett each had two hits.
