AUBURN — Firefighters from surrounding towns responding to a fire at Pioneer Plastics Monday evening warned residents south of the plant to close their windows because of toxic fumes.

Lewiston and Auburn fire departments responded to a fire in duct work on the roof of the plant, and blocked access to Rodman Road at Washington Street and at Poland Road.

Residents in the Beech Hill Road section of Auburn were warned to close their windows.

Firefighters from Mechanic Falls were aiding Twin Cities crews.
