MONMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Police say a Monmouth man was fatally crushed by a load of steel reinforcing bar at Mid-Maine Foundations.

Chief Kevin Mulherin told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1nf4QI6 ) that a truck was dropping off the load of rebar when the load slipped and landed on the victim, identified as 30-year-old Philip Coward.

Rebar is used to reinforce concrete at construction sites.

The property and the company are owned by Coward’s parents, Thomas and Lisa Coward. Mulherin says the father was present when the accident happened. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating.
