JAY — Spruce Mountain Theatre will perform “Scenes from a Porch” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Spruce Mountain High School.
The school’s tech theatre class built a house and porch for the scenes that will take the audience from Maynard, Texas, to 1905 Russia to Mississippi to a lobstering island off the coast of Maine.
There is no set admission fee, but the theatre group is asking for donations to help fund improvements to the stage.
The cast consists of students, graduates, teachers and community members.
This has been a transitional year as RSU 73 high school students who attended Spruce Mountain High School in Livermore Falls began attending classes at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay. The theatre program moved from Livermore Falls to Jay as well.
“We have struggled to get the technical aspects of the stage functioning. At present, our lights are a mix of two incomplete systems,” Director Anne Weatherbee said in a statement. “This has greatly limited our ability to do the kinds of lighting we have grown to appreciate. Our goal with ‘Scenes from a Porch’ is to celebrate theatre and raise funds to continue our improvements to our stage,” she said.
Community members are invited to enjoy the show and the ice cream, she said.
