Cancer Buddy program volunteers
SOUTH PORTLAND — In advance of a training session in early December, community members who have experience with cancer are encouraged to apply to become a volunteer with the Maine Buddy Program. People who are cancer survivors, have been a friend or caregiver to someone with cancer or lost a loved one to cancer are invited to submit an application to become a Maine Buddy.
The statewide service pairs trained volunteers with individuals who are dealing with cancer in their lives – either through their own illness or the diagnosis of a friend or family member.
The program offers an important complement to other support services, connecting individuals with a trained volunteer who has been there. Buddies provide support, hope and encouragement.
Stewart stresses that there currently is a need for friends and family members of people diagnosed with cancer.
To apply, contact Molly Stewart at the Cancer Community Center, at 774-2200 or at [email protected].
