STRONG — Selectmen learned Tuesday there will be six openings for town offices in 2015.

Selectmen Michael Carleton and Joan Reed, whose terms will expire in March 2015, will not seek re-election to three-year terms.

Planning Board member Rodney Cook has announced his intentions to run for selectman.

Town Clerk Betsey DuBois told selectmen Tuesday night that three Budget Committee seats will be open.

Regional School Unit 58 Director Ann Schwink’s term will expire, but she has not announced whether she will seek another term. She is one of four board members from Strong.

DuBois said she will have nomination papers at the Town Office by Tuesday, Dec. 11. Elections will be held Friday, March 6, 2015, the day before the annual town meeting.

Selectmen have begun budget discussions in anticipation of higher costs for electricity and several repair and maintenance projects. They also agreed to speak with a Bangor Savings Bank representative about the costs and benefits of having the bank handle the town’s payroll duties.

The bank manages most of the town’s financial accounts.

Treasurer and Office Manager Sandra Mitchell said she needs to have selectmen consider this option, because her day-to-day responsibilities have increased.

Costs for the services are based on the number of employees, but monthly, quarterly and year-end paperwork will be handled more efficiently.

Mitchell said having an outside entity handle these details also will relieve her of the legal responsibility.

“It’s the liability part,” she said.

Selectmen will hear the presentation at their Dec. 9 meeting. A budget workshop is planned for 6 p.m.; the regular board meeting is at 7 p.m.
