1920 – 2014
MECHANIC FALLS — Bertha “Bertie” A. Gray, 94, of Mechanic Falls crossed over to join her Heavenly Father on the Tuesday, Nov. 25, with her family and friends by her side after a long battle with many health problems.
Bertie overcame many challenges. She fought a courageous fight in her final years. Her extraordinary belief in God sustained and enriched not only herself but the many people with whom she came in contact.
She was born in Ellsworth on June 26, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Marion Crocker Webster.
She was a homemaker all of her life.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Bertie was always smiling, cheerful, mischievous, welcoming to strangers and a beam of sun to all with whom she came in contact.
She sadly leaves behind a son, Lawrence I. Gray and wife, Ann, of Luton-Beds, England; three daughters, Thressa Davis Wengland of Gorham, Cheryl Gray of Lewiston and Darleen Gray (Groder-Harmon-Gosselin) of Mechanic Falls; 15 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; her adopted family; and a huge cache of beloved friends. She will be sadly missed by all; her memory will linger on forever.
In 1978, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 36 years, Horace L. Gray of Lisbon Falls; and her daughter, Barbara L. Gray of Auburn in 1957.
A special thank-you goes out to the many hospice caretakers who made her last days more comfortable. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
