JONESPORT (AP) — Police say speed was likely a factor in a weekend car crash in Jonesport that claimed two lives.

The victims of the Saturday morning crash were identified as 26-year-old James Hatt and 31-year-old Bridget Robinson, both of Jonesport.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling close to triple the posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour when it hit a guard rail and a tree on Main Street.

Both were declared dead at the scene.

A state trooper saw their Cadillac pull quickly in and out of a parking lot a mile before the crash.

Exactly who was driving and what caused the crash remains under investigation.
